Fushi no Kami: Rebuilding Civilization Starts with a Village

Synopsis

Ash is a young boy with apparent past-life memories who lives in a remote, deserted village. As he remembers leading a bountiful life, he can’t bear living in a world akin to the Dark Ages, where not even the internal combustion engine exists. Ash envisions the rebirth of a civilization where housing with proper sanitation is the norm and the world is connected via a means of transportation faster than horses. For that reason, he is eager to consult books containing knowledge from a highly-developed ancient culture that is rumored to have existed far in the past. Ash makes use of the church’s resources, learning how to read and obtaining the knowledge that he seeks. In addition, he enlists the help of the people around him, including Maika, the village chief’s daughter. Together, they aim to develop their own village. This is only the beginning of the story about a young boy who sets out to revolutionize the world in order to rebuild civilization and create his ideal life!

  1. I can feel politics. I can feel it being dorky and cringe. I can feel it being one sided or has a lot of stupid overlooked problems. Ascendance Bookworm’s politics’ already on the cringe side. It’s a rainy day when a Light Novel talks about politics.

Anyway, this is Ascendance of a Bookworm but with different set. Myne’s already crazy enough even with her sickly body. Guess what a strong MC will do. Oh and the MC is on the selfless side, very JNC ish, and dumb, couldve went for the 90s microsoft route to earn more money=to invest more=to gain more influence.

Characters are on the generic LN type too. You got a tsundere, a car(ess)ing bigppai’d woman, an obsessed side character that helps the MC. I swear tsundere is overrated. Being overused and most arent well written. Like that wannabe asuka from another series.

And btw, the mc does whatever he wanted and everyone just accepted it. Then u got a 10 y/o blackmailing a trader. Really? God even Cooking Wild Game has a bit of reality in it.

Yea ik mr author tryna add some layers for some events by using “Maika’s perspective” and other side characters. The idea is fine. But it being overused and its only (mostly) for praising the MC is dumb, like aaron below said “too much praises can be annoying”.

Trivia. I thought this was “How a realist rebuilt a kingdom” so i read it. And it was my worst mistake on mistaking a series.

  2. Let me just preface this with saying in the hundreds upon hundreds of LNs I have under my belt, this is the first one I have bothered to leave a comment for. Not because it’s revolutionary, as it decidedly is not; at it’s core, it’s still a male MC is boy-wonder isekai. That being said, it still handles that aspect somewhat better than the average, in the sense that it’s a step removed from the standard “MC gradually bring JP culture into the isekai world” fare.

What drove me to post this comment that other people haven’t mentioned enough was that the handling of the romance aspect is a complete breath of fresh air in this genre. Though I fear it doesn’t do it justice, the best way I can describe it is just straightforward and cute. If you’re a fan of the romance in LN’s and need a break from the same old shit, I recommend giving this one a try.

    Spoiler

Without going into any actual details since I don’t know how to actually make a spoiler tag here, in volume 5, the male MC hits the female MC with a rather annoying cliche scenario. Instead of dragging things on for several volumes, she instead pulls off the grandest “lolno” I’ve read in recent years and flips the cliche on its head by the end of the volume. Honestly, to my jaded ass, that one scene by itself was worth reading the entire 4 previous volumes.

      1. >spoiler
Assuming I did it correctly this time, its like this:

        %>spoiler%
        Sample text

        Except remove the %’s

        1. Whelp that didn’t work, honestly I just guessed last time since I can find any syntax guide on the site and there’s no edit/delete function that I can see lol. One more try, wont flood the comments more than that.

          > Spoiler
          Test

          %> spoiler%
          Sample text

Except remove the %’s, tried adding a space this time

**you didn’t write the spoiler tag last time, Jowy did. There’s no official spoiler tag for comments but here’s a workaround

          Spoiler

          [details]
          [summary]Spoiler[/summary]
          spoiler text[/details]
change square brackets to angle brackets (the greater/less than sign in math)

  3. It’s a good story, but too much praise can be annoying. It’s like author wants to self-insert himself and listen to all that praise because he grew up without getting much. And there are really scenes where they would praise other characters using Ash as the standard, like ‘ you are amazing because you can keep up with ash’. In real life, this is an insult. You don’t praise people using their colleagues as a metric, this says you will always be in someone’s shadow. But rant aside, you can skip the stupid praise orgys and read the rest which is fine. But beware, you will only be left with about 100 pages after the praiseorgasms

  4. Just done with vol. 5 here.
For anyone that still confuse about this series.
This series is fcking good. In just 1 day, I continue read till vol. 4 cause it not something that I can stop after read it from chapter 1.
Author took different way about after reincarnation with memory. Now that I think about it, this one is the one that more accurate in my opinion.
Pace in Volume 1 quite slow. But after that, this series become quite fast in pacing. But that wasn’t too fast.
About Romance, it’s fcking me satisfied.
You’ll lucky that you don’t need to wait Vol. 5 release.
    So READ IT.

In other words, its like Ascendance of a Bookworm, but with a male protagonist, and unfortunately, I rate the former higher for interesting world building.

      1. Ohh thx bro ascendence of a bookworm is pretty interesting but the mc can be rather annoying at times with her book fetish weirdo stuff.

        Does this have any romance?

        1. I swear Myne’s book fetish is easier to control and is a better story foundation than this series’ MC ‘ideology’
